Newcastle were involved in the joint second highest ever scoring game in the Premiership on Saturday as they lost 7-3 to Arsenal. The Magpies showed great spirit to recover from a goal down thrice and draw the game at 3-3 before a late Gunners surge left them winded and knocked out.

Newcastle’s Dutch keeper Tim Krul had an evening to forget as the Magpies suffered their eighth loss in ten games. Manager Alan Pardew has already claimed that league survival is his side’s first aim and a decent result against Everton would help a great deal in that respect.

Everton paid the price for not taking their chances as they lost 2-1 to Chelsea. The Toffees dominated the first half but only had an early goal from Steven Pienaar to show for it. Chelsea, with Frank Lampard netting twice, grabbed a 2-1 win to pick up three crucial points.
