Arsenal Signs Four Including Mikel Arteta
In Soccer news, Arsenal has signed four players that will hopefully make them a formidable opponent this year. Manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping to take his team to victory after struggling in the Premier League. On Sunday his team was beat by Manchester United, with a score of 8-2, but things may change now that Arsenal has found some serious ammunition to add to their squad in the form of talented, high caliber players like Mike Arteta from Everton and Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea. He got those two players in the very last hour that he could sign them, nearly at the last minute.
This comes after the departure of, and Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. Arsenal also brought Andre Santos, a leftback from Fenerbahce and center back Per Mertsacker from Germany who was previously with Werder Bremen. Spending this summer for the Premier League was more than $650 million and that included some other deals that should be mentioned. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United did not choose to add any new players to their squad, and Inter Milan kept Wesley Sneijder.
However, deals that were made included Raul Meireles, for Chelsea, who signed a four year deal coming from Liverpool. His transfer request had been announced just minutes prior. Manchester City also drafted Owen Hargreaves for one year. He had been released by Manchester United because of several years that were ridden with injuries. Arsenal was able to spend some serious cash after selling Fabregas to Barcelona and Nasri to City for a total for the two of them that exceeded $80 million dollars.
